Abstract: Block backward differentiation formulas based on an interpolation approach are derived in this paper. The methods which are variable step block schemes are designed for the treatment of first order stiff initial value problems in ordinary differential equations. The stability region for the block methods is discussed. The methods derived in this paper are tested and seen to be efficient with a better accuracy when compared with some other known methods.
